About the Programme
The Hungarian Institute of International Affairs serves as one of Hungary’s leading foreign policy research institutions and think tanks. Through its fellowship initiatives, the institute promotes research, policy dialogue, and international cooperation across a broad range of geopolitical and strategic issues.
The HIIA Future Leaders Program 2026 provides young scholars and graduates with an opportunity to engage directly with foreign policy research under professional mentorship. Participants contribute to ongoing research activities while developing expertise in regional and thematic policy areas relevant to Hungary and the wider international community.
In addition, fellows participate in leadership development activities, public speaking workshops, media training sessions, and professional discussions with experts from Hungary’s foreign policy community. Consequently, the fellowship combines academic research with practical policy exposure.
Eligibility Criteria
Academic Qualification
- Applicants from any nationality are eligible.
- A minimum Bachelor’s degree is required.
- Preferred academic backgrounds include:

- Political Science

- Philosophy
- International Economics
- Related disciplines may also be considered individually.
Experience & Other Conditions
- Candidates should demonstrate a strong interest in foreign policy and international affairs.
- Applicants must be under 30 years of age.
- All application documents must be submitted in English.
- The fellowship requires approximately 30 hours of weekly participation at HIIA headquarters in Budapest.
