We are actively seeking dedicated individuals for the Bird Ecology Volunteer Nilgiris project, a prestigious 6-month ecological research initiative in the Western Ghats. Led by researchers from the Sálim Ali Centre for Ornithology and Natural History (SACON), this project offers a unique opportunity to study avian life in the high-altitude landscapes of the Upper Nilgiris. Project Details

  • Location: Upper Nilgiris, Tamil Nadu (High-altitude terrain).
  • Duration: 6 Months.
  • Focus: Ecology, habitat monitoring, and population studies of select bird species.
  • Organization: SACON, South India Centre of Wildlife Institute of India (Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change).

Your Role in the Field

As a participant in this ecological initiative, you will work closely with the research team to gather critical data.

  • Field Surveys: Conduct daily treks to monitor bird populations and habitats.
  • Data Collection: Record behavioral observations and ecological data.
  • Physical Requirement: Be prepared for 4–6 hours of hiking daily across rugged terrain.
