The Syngene Early Career Research Awards 2025–26 are a major CSR initiative that supports early-career life science researchers in India. Because young faculty often struggle to access flexible funding, this programme provides them with resources to begin independent, innovative research. As a result, junior scientists gain the confidence and support required to build long-term academic careers.
The programme was created with several important goals. Firstly, it encourages researchers to pursue challenging scientific ideas that may lead to meaningful advances in healthcare. Secondly, it promotes the translation of academic discoveries into real-world applications. Moreover, the award strengthens the connection between industry and academia, ensuring that research remains relevant and impactful. Ultimately, the programme empowers early-career faculty to take creative risks and explore new directions in life sciences.
The award provides multiple advantages that significantly enhance a researcher’s trajectory. For instance, the funding is flexible, which allows early-career faculty to explore innovative or high-risk ideas without restrictions. Additionally, the programme offers opportunities to interact with industry experts, thereby expanding a researcher’s understanding of biotechnology and drug discovery. Furthermore, the recognition associated with the award strengthens academic credibility. Consequently, recipients gain momentum in both academic and industry collaborations.
To ensure fairness and clarity, Syngene uses well-defined eligibility conditions. In general, applicants must meet the following requirements:
| Requirement | Details |
|---|---|
| Qualification | PhD in Life Sciences (Postdoc optional) |
| Experience Limit | Up to 6 years after PhD as of September 2026 |
| Position | Assistant Professor / Junior Research Faculty |
| Employment | Permanent position in an Indian university or research institute |
| Not Eligible | Postdoctoral Fellows |
In summary, only junior faculty members working in life sciences, and holding permanent positions in India, are eligible.
The award is designed to support independent research in multiple ways. For example, funding can be used for laboratory consumables, minor equipment, or research personnel. In addition, the programme covers travel for conferences and collaborations, which helps researchers expand their professional networks. Because of this flexibility, recipients can design more ambitious and productive research projects.
The application process is straightforward; however, applicants must ensure accuracy and completeness.
Deadline: 12 December 2025
Therefore, submitting early is strongly recommended to avoid technical or last-minute issues.
Syngene follows a comprehensive evaluation method. Primarily, applications are assessed for innovation, clarity, and feasibility. Additionally, the applicant’s academic record and potential for long-term impact are considered. Furthermore, proposals that align with healthcare innovation receive particular attention. After all evaluations are completed, Syngene finalizes the list of awardees.
