ATAL FDP RCPET Shirpur: Capacity Building in Biotechnology

The ATAL FDP at R. C. Patel Educational Trust (RCPET) is an AICTE-sponsored, six-day offline Faculty Development Programme titled “Capacity Building in Biotechnology: Industrial, Computational and Environmental Perspectives”. Organized by the Department of Biotechnology in association with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) at R. C. Patel Arts, Commerce & Science College in Shirpur, this initiative focuses on deploying biotechnological interventions to promote sustainability and address environmental challenges.

About the Programme & Objectives

This intensive training program aims to educate faculty members about the principles of biotechnology in driving sustainable development and tackling issues like pollution and resource depletion. Participants will receive practical training on the ethical, social, and regulatory aspects of the field while being encouraged to develop innovative teaching methodologies and interdisciplinary research projects.

The host institute, R. C. Patel Arts, Commerce and Science College (RCPET), is a NAAC Accredited ‘A+’ Grade institution established in 1991. Located in a rural tribal area, the college is permanently affiliated to Kavayitri Bahinabai Chaudhari North Maharashtra University, Jalgaon, and operates with UGC 2(f) and 12(B) status.

Eligibility & Intake Capacity

  • Target Audience: Assistant Professors, Associate Professors, Ph.D. scholars, and PG students.
  • Geographical Restriction: Participants must belong to Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) from the same city or within a 100 km radius of the host institute.
  • Seat Limit: The program strictly caps enrollment at 30 to 50 participants.

Assessment & Certification Criteria

To earn the certification, attendees will undergo a Continuous Comprehensive Assessment. Participants must secure an overall 70% to receive a certificate, while 90% and above earns a distinction.

  • Attendance (20%): Individual metric requiring a minimum of 80% attendance.
  • One Assessment (10%): Individual evaluation.
  • Article Summary (30%): A 2-page summary assessed on both a team and individual basis.
  • Output of Practical Sessions (15%): Individual evaluation based on hands-on laboratory work.
  • Industrial Visit Report (10%): Team-based evaluation.
  • Reflection Journal (15%): Individual assessment conducted during the final session.

Technical Sessions & Daily Schedule

The FDP employs a collaborative, outcome-based pedagogy encompassing live sessions, case studies, research article discussions, and hands-on laboratory training.

  • Day 1 (03/08/2026): Food Biotechnology led by Prof. V. L. Chaudhari and Computational Biotechnology by Dr. N. D. Dandi, followed by hands-on training in Bioinformatics.
  • Day 2 (04/08/2026): Agricultural Biotechnology sessions guided by Prof. K. P. Narkhede and Dr. Navinkumar R., concluding with hands-on training in Forensic Biotechnology.
  • Day 3 (05/08/2026): Microbial Biotechnology by Dr. Arun R. Dhakade and Diagnostic Biotechnology by Dr. Vinay V. Naik, complemented by Environmental Biotechnology labs.
  • Day 4 (06/08/2026): Industrial Biotechnology covered by Dr. Ashish S. Pardeshi and Dr. Avinash Sonawane, followed by practical Applied Immunology training.
  • Day 5 (07/08/2026): A morning Industrial Visit to a Food Industry facility (9:00 AM – 1:00 PM), an afternoon session on Microbial Biotechnology by Dr. Mitesh P. Patil, and hands-on Agricultural Biotechnology.
  • Day 6 (08/08/2026): NEP-2020 Implementation discussed by Prof. Bhanudas Kuchekar, followed by the MCQ assessment, Reflection Journal submission, and the Valedictory session.
