The postdoctoral researcher will join the Vickovic Lab at Uppsala University’s Department of Immunology, Genetics and Pathology, a department with a broad research profile spanning cancer, genetic, and autoimmune disease research across six dedicated research programs. The lab is developing integrative multi-modal data analysis tools that incorporate multi-modal spatially resolved omics, positioning the successful candidate at the intersection of mathematical modeling, computer vision, omics data analysis, and workflow optimization. Consequently, the researcher will contribute directly to building new computational, machine learning, and statistical methods for analyzing large-scale spatially resolved RNA-seq and genotypic data using state-of-the-art technologies. Furthermore, the department’s substantial scale — approximately 400 employees including 100 PhD students and an annual turnover of around SEK 550 million, two-thirds of which derives from external funding — provides a well-resourced and internationally connected research environment for the appointed postdoctoral researcher.

Who is eligible for the Postdoctoral Researcher position at Uppsala University?
Candidates holding a Ph.D. in computational biology, statistics, applied mathematics, computer science, or a related discipline are eligible; priority is given to those who completed their degree within the past three years, though this period may be extended for documented circumstances such as parental or sick leave.
What is the duration of the postdoctoral position?
The position is a temporary two-year, full-time appointment according to central collective agreement, with the possibility of a one-year extension based on performance and project needs.
What technical skills are required for this position?
Prior experience with Bayesian inference, graph models, multivariate models, and image analysis is preferred; however, exceptionally creative and driven scientists with strong adaptability and relevant interest will also be seriously considered.
What will the postdoctoral researcher work on?
The researcher will develop computational, machine learning, and statistical methods for integrating and analyzing large-scale spatially resolved RNA-seq and genotypic data, build community data resources, collaborate with experimental colleagues, and contribute to manuscript preparation and conference presentations.
Is the position subject to security vetting?
Yes — the position may be subject to security vetting, and the applicant must pass this process to be eligible for employment, in addition to meeting the standard academic and professional requirements.
