Thousands of faculty members search for information about ATAL FDP every month — and most of them have the same questions. How do I register? Who is eligible? What certificate will I receive? Why was my application rejected? This guide answers every question in one place, clearly and completely, so you can stop searching and start applying.
ATAL stands for AICTE Training and Learning Academy. FDP stands for Faculty Development Programme. Together, ATAL FDP refers to the structured professional development programmes run by the All India Council for Technical Education specifically for faculty members at approved institutions across India. The programme has been running for over a decade and has trained hundreds of thousands of educators in that time.
The programme runs directly under AICTE — the All India Council for Technical Education — which is the statutory body under the Ministry of Education responsible for technical education regulation in India. Because it operates under government authority, the certificates it issues carry formal recognition across AICTE-approved institutions nationwide.
Yes, completely. There is no registration fee, no course fee, and no charge at any stage of the process. AICTE fully funds every programme under the ATAL banner, whether online or offline. This applies to all participants regardless of institution type or seniority level.
Eligibility is broader than most people assume. The programme welcomes faculty members from any discipline at AICTE-approved institutions, research scholars pursuing a PhD, postgraduate students from technical institutions, and in many cases industry professionals with relevant backgrounds. You do not need to be an engineering faculty member — educators from management, sciences, humanities, and applied disciplines all qualify provided their institution holds AICTE approval.
AICTE designs programmes around specific thrust areas that reflect current industry and academic priorities. Topics include Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Data Science, Cyber Security, Internet of Things, Blockchain Technology, Electric Vehicles, Renewable Energy, Entrepreneurship, Design Thinking, and many more. New subjects are added regularly as emerging fields develop, meaning the catalogue stays current with where the world is heading.
Online ATAL FDPs run virtually, typically through video conferencing platforms, and are usually scheduled during evening hours — around 5 PM to 8 PM — to accommodate active teaching schedules. They run for five days and are accessible to participants anywhere in India regardless of location.
Offline ATAL FDPs run in person at host institutions for five days. They involve direct interaction with expert faculty, institutional visits, and the kind of peer networking that builds lasting professional relationships. Seats for offline programmes are more limited and tend to fill faster than online equivalents.
All registration happens through the official ATAL Academy portal at atalacademy.aicte-india.org. First-time users must create an account by visiting the signup page and completing their profile with institutional details. Once registered, participants browse available programmes by month and format, select a relevant session, upload their No Objection Certificate, and submit their application directly through the dashboard. The entire process takes under fifteen minutes for a prepared applicant.
A No Objection Certificate is a formal document from your institution confirming that your employer has no objection to your participation in the selected FDP. It is a mandatory requirement for every ATAL FDP application. The ATAL portal provides a downloadable sample NOC template — simply print it on your institution’s official letterhead, obtain the signature of your Head of Department or Principal, and upload it during the application process. Preparing this document before you begin searching for programmes saves critical time when popular sessions are filling quickly.
Participants who successfully complete a programme and meet the required attendance criteria receive an official certificate issued through the ATAL Academy portal. This certificate is downloadable directly from the participant dashboard. It carries formal recognition for API score calculations used in faculty promotion assessments at AICTE-approved institutions, and many institutions also accept it as evidence of professional development for annual performance reviews.
There is no formal limit on how many ATAL FDP programmes a faculty member can complete. In practice, the most engaged participants attend multiple programmes each academic year, building a portfolio of certifications across different subject areas and formats. Attending more than one programme per month is possible, though the scheduling of online sessions typically means participants complete one five-day programme at a time.
The most common reasons for application issues include a missing or incorrectly formatted NOC, an incomplete participant profile on the portal, applying after the programme has reached full capacity, or a technical error during submission. If your application shows as pending for an extended period, log back into your dashboard, verify that all required documents are uploaded correctly, and contact AICTE support at it1tlb@aicte-india.org with your registered email address and application details.
Log into your participant dashboard at atalacademy.aicte-india.org and navigate to the completed programmes section. Your certificate appears there as a downloadable PDF once AICTE processes completion data after the programme ends. If it does not appear within forty-eight hours of programme completion, contact AICTE support with your application number and programme details.
Online ATAL FDP programmes do not include a stipend. Offline programmes hosted at institutions outside a participant’s home city may include accommodation and meals arranged by the host institution, though this varies by programme and host. The primary benefit of participation is the certified professional development, the API score recognition, and the peer networking — not financial compensation.
New ATAL FDP programmes open throughout the academic year, with fresh batches typically announced at the start of each month. The highest volume of available programmes runs between July and March, aligning with the Indian academic calendar. The most popular programmes — particularly those covering AI, Data Science, and Entrepreneurship — fill within days of opening. Checking the portal at the start of each month and having your NOC prepared in advance gives you the best chance of securing a place in your preferred session.
