The IDEA WILD Small Equipment Grant is a rolling conservation funding opportunity offering up to $1,500 in equipment support for researchers, conservationists, and educators working on biodiversity, wildlife, and ecosystem projects globally. With a total funding pool of $300,000 and a rolling deadline of 31 December 2030, the grant prioritises applicants from the Global South – particularly those in under-resourced countries and internationally recognised biodiversity hotspots. Applications are reviewed on a continuous monthly basis throughout the year.

The IDEA WILD Small Equipment Grant supports practical, field-based conservation and research projects spanning biodiversity, wildlife, plant science, ecosystem management, and environmental education across all life on earth. IDEA WILD receives between 50 and 70 equipment requests per month and prioritises applications based on conservation impact, recipient need, and project location — with additional consideration for projects situated in critical global biodiversity hotspots. Consequently, the grant is particularly suited to early-career field scientists and researchers in under-resourced regions where access to basic research equipment represents a tangible barrier to meaningful conservation work. Furthermore, while the Global South remains the primary focus, IDEA WILD also welcomes applications from tribal and marginalised communities in the First World, and from First World-based conservationists working directly with country nationals on internationally significant projects.
